Sharpening Iron to Live Second

On the Edge of Darkness, Just be Held

Does it seem darker than before? How do you get the strength to go on? Feeling like you are drowning yet you raise your head and find the inner power to continue to push through. As a husband, there are certain roles that you assume. Provider, comforter, healer, leader, I could go on and on. We believe we are to hold it all together no matter what. Then comes that moment in time, where the sands slip through our fingers, and we begin to lose our grip. Fear and anxiety that we put our parents through as kids become a reality in that moment, as we lose control. Whether it is a spouse or child, you can be brought to your knees in an instant. One moment you are complacently going through your daily routines. Suddenly your life is turned upside down, and you are rocked to your core, no longer having control. My wife and I have not been blessed with children. I witnessed the stripping of all my power as illness took over her life. In a moment we went from our daily routines to feeling like we were barely breathing. Days and nights blended as I remained at her bedside. Every needle and pill she experienced pierced my helpless heart. I painstakingly watched as the doctors treated my wife more like a number than a person. All dignity and humanity were taken away as they tirelessly tried to find a label or condition to put on her. Our home was empty in […]

Story of Hope with Darren Mulligan of We Are Messengers

Just over a month ago, World Records recording artist We Are Messengers released their debut album. After a recent whirlwind tour with WinterJam, the timing could not be better. I had the opportunity to chat with frontman, lead singer Darren Mulligan shortly after a recent show he performed in my town. Personally, I have been listening to We Are Messengers new album since picking up a copy at WinterJam when the tour came through in January. I have been a fan of their music since being first introduced to them last August when they opened up for Chris August. That was the first time I had spoken with Darren briefly and knew if the opportunity arose I wanted to have him on my site to share his heart. Charles (C): So Darren, tell me a little bit about the WinterJam tour, how was the experience for you guys? Darren (D): It was fantastic, it really was, it was like family. I remember the last day was like the last day of high school or something. Grown men were hugging each other.  It was wonderful being able to reach out to literally a million people over a three-month period. I definitely think we need to get back to doing our own shows. You have more time and freedom to move really where God is guiding you and challenge people when they need challenging. To stay and be with people. C: I may be a little ahead on this as I am already looking forward to your […]

When We Turn Up the Volume in Our Lives

Sometimes we must slow down to listen, other times we must turn up the volume to hear. Lately I have been gently reminded that there is a plan for me. These reminders have come in many shapes, sizes and voices. Ever since I was told a few months ago to press into the Lord he has fervently been chasing me to get my attention. Whether it was listening to others share their stories in the hills near music city. Or maybe it was the beautiful sounds in the mountains of Haiti. Perhaps it was when I got the attention of the pastor during his sermon while visiting a church down south. Maybe it was when my own priest asked me to lead in ways that are uncomfortable. Or was it the time I spoke with someone whom my writing ministered to. Maybe it was when I watched a movie that brought me to tears (yes guys we do it too). When you press into Him, no matter the noise you will hear His voice. Click To Tweet Each moment that I have experienced lately were not my chance. He has been molding me slowly to do more. I am not sure what any of this will lead to, all I know is that it was not by accident but by design that these words have been written at the time that they have. Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know. ~ Jeremiah 33:3 We are […]
