From the author of The Energy Bus and The No Complaining Rule comes another heartfelt leadership story we can all learn from and relate to.  In The Carpenter, Jon takes us on a journey with the main character Michael who wakes up in a hospital bed bandaged up on the outside burdened with fear and a heavy heart on the inside.

Like many people who try to take on the world and build a business on their own, the stress and anxiety finely got the best of Michael on his morning jog. Fortunately as Michael tumbles to the ground collapsing with he is seen by a stranger who comes to aid and possibly saves his life.  His doctor stresses that he needs to slow down and take it easy for a while.

As Michael tries to heed the doctors warnings and his wife’s pleads to take it easy he begins to go stir crazy.  While sitting in front of the TV one day he  decided he wanted to build an entertainment center.

Knowing that he was all thumbs and would not be able to do the project himself he remembered the man who saved him and his business card that he had stating that he was a carpenter. He needed to call and thank him anyway and that way he could also see about hiring him to build the entertainment center.

Michael ends up hiring the carpenter, who we will call “J.” for now and let you read the book for more on that.  Little did he know that not only would they be designing a masterpiece of an entertainment center but there would be more designing and building that would occur.

Carpenter GratitudeThe Carpenter takes the reader on journey not only where Michael and J. work on creating the entertainment center of Michael’s dreams, but there is more much more to be built.  Little did Michael know that this carpenter would teach him life strategies and lessons along the way. Michael was broken when he met the carpenter and it would take the hands of a skilled craftsmen to put the pieces back together.

I expect great things to happen today.
I trust in God’s plan for my life.
I accept all of the love, joy, abundance, and success in
my life.
I accept all the people who want to work with me and
benefit from my gifts and love.
Every day I am getting stronger, healthier, and better.

As they continue to build the entertainment center J. the carpenter offers tidbits of skills and strategies along the way.  He focuses first on Michael’s attitude as without a positive attitude the remainder of the healing would be futile.  He delivers a positive pledge which takes Michael (and us) through a step by process of walking in a positive way through life.

The strategies continue as the carpenter teaches Michael the three greatest strategies of all, which are love, serve and care and how theyCarpenter, love, serve, care can change his life and the lives of those around him. Michael also learns about failure and how failing can be a gift if used properly.

Finally the carpenter teaches Michael about faith and using his success not only for his own glory but that of others.  Success is meant to be shared as are all the lessons in this book and the book itself for that matter.
