Angels Do Walk Among Us, This I Have Seen

Ever hear that voice in your ear that tells you to “slow down?” What about the one that whispers “not now?” Or the one where words come out of your mouth but you don’t know where they came from, yet they were beautifully perfect at that moment?

Angels Do Walk Among Us, This I Have Seen

It is in these moments that I believe angels do walk among us.

Many would like to believe that when our loved ones leave us that they look down on us from heaven. Holding onto the memories of their earthly bodies, as they dance in the ethereal clouds with our Lord.

I ask, do they only look down or are they still with you in spirit?

When Jesus ascended to heaven, he promised the Holy Spirit would return in his place. A spirit that would guide us as we spread the gospel throughout the world. How can this Holy Spirit spread amongst all of us, to each end of the earth?

What if the Holy Spirit came down and touched each of us through our baptism and stayed with us. The Holy Spirit transformed and transfigured into the angels of our loved ones. When you speak the words, your mother used to say or do something only your grandfather could have done.

Perhaps it’s the simple smile of a baby reflecting the eyes of one you lost too soon. Or a moment that feels familiar, and safe as if your loved one was still by your side. Isn’t it possible that these are the angels promised to us, the spirit to keep us under His watchful eye?

‘Look, I shall send my messenger to clear a way before me. And suddenly the Lord whom you seek will come to his Temple; yes, the angel of the covenant, for whom you long, is on his way, says Yahweh Sabaoth. ~ Malachi 3:1

Although the word “angel” in the Bible, means a “messenger,” implying nearly always to heavenly beings, it can apply to human messengers as well.

I know my grandmother and grandfather are here, along with my grandpa, aunts and uncles and friends and family that I have lost over the years. They are no longer with me in a physical sense, but they guide me through each day. Tongues of fire came down on doves wings on my baptism and left angels for me to stay alongside.

Now it’s your turn, do you ever feel the presence of someone who has passed, felt like your guardian angel was protecting you? I would love you to share your experience in the comments so that others too may believe that angels do walk among us.

Absolutely spot on! Yes, I do believe in angels, and I do believe that when a thought comes to mind that it is the Lord speaking to us! As long as we walk with Jesus, He has provided the Holy Spirit to direct and guide us in all that we do. He gives us patience when we need it, gives us wisdom (via words or actions), and gives us strength to persevere when we cannot handle it physically or emotionally. As long as we spend time with God (quiet prayer reflection, Eucharistic Adoration, or reading Holy Scripture), He will continue to fortify us to be His “chosen people” and continue His Son’s work here on earth until Jesus comes again. Excellent article, again. Thank you for your insight.

  2. Great post. Not long after my grandma died, my mom sent me a card. The card she sent was the exact one I had sent my grandma just before she died. I laughed and was amazed, her way of saying she was fine, and we would be too.
